In a dual-site exhibition Nuuk Art Museum and Greenland National Archives explore the longing to and from Greenland expressed in fragments of documents from the archives and marine paintings.
The exhibitions – at Nuuk Art Museum and Ilimmarfik – have a backdrop, a sound installation of voices speaking from the archives with the sounds of journeys to and from Greenland.
All elements on display refer to the many variations of longing that often appear when talking about Greenland. For centuries that longing was deeply connected to the journey across the ocean, a journey that was a physical and temporal space for reflection – on the longing for adventure, longing for home, longing for a return.
